Fire Resistance of Phosphogypsum- and Hemp-Based Bio-Aggregate Composite with Variable Amount of Binder

Bio-aggregate composites (BACs) are typically formed by binding plant origin aggregates using organic or inorganic binders. Composite boards being manufactured from hemp shives and Portland cement lime such material is associated with the so-called “hempcrete”. To reach a low greenhouse gas emission rate, alternative binders must be considered. Gypsum binder releases seven times lower amount of CO2 during production compared cement, while waste gypsum can even more efficient. In this research, gypsum-based BACs were elaborated tested. Phosphogypsum was evaluated as an binder. The objective research to evaluate fire resistance gypsum- phosphogypsum-binder-based BAC. study, varied density 200 400 kg/m3 For first time, commercial phosphogypsum-based shive BAC performance cone calorimeter. Results indicate that role content has significant effect on resistance. Time ignition increased 14 19 s heat release rate peak reduced 57%. binder, gypsum, showed slight improvement impurities high water attraction in structure PG.
